New Chair will help Golden Key unlock Bristol’s system

John Simpson, a leadership consultant and former Chief Executive of Tribal Education, has been announced as the new Independent Chair for the Golden Key Partnership Board. John will play a leading role in translating Golden Key’s vision, of unlocking Bristol services and creating new futures for those with complex needs, into reality.

John’s current consultancy work focuses on developing resilience in leaders working in complex and challenging environments and on developing system leadership. He has also acted as executive coach for over 100 senior leaders. He previously held Director Posts in three local authorities and has been appointed to non-executive roles by two Secretaries of State. He is currently chair of ASDAN, the Bristol based national education charity and of North Somerset Strategic School Forum.

Speaking about his appointment John said: “I am delighted to be joining such a dynamic partnership which offers the chance to make a real difference to hundreds of people in Bristol currently caught in a cycle of deprivation and dependency.  I have a strong interest in, and commitment to, both Bristol and social equality.  I see the Golden Key as an opportunity to combine these passions.  The Golden Key’s strength lies in the power of its partnership – I look forward to ensuring we work together effectively to create lasting change.”

The Golden Key is an eight-year £10 million Big Lottery funded partnership.  Led by Bristol mental health charity, Second Step, the programme aims to create lasting change to the way services respond to people with multiple and complex needs. The Golden Key Partnership Board includes IF - an advisory group of experts with lived experience, service providers, commissioners and equalities groups. The Board members have strong links with Bristol’s key strategic bodies to maximise influence and create awareness.

Aileen Edwards, Chief Executive of Second Step welcomed John to his new role: “John brings with him a wealth of experience and skills which will prove invaluable in ensuring and enabling all partners to make an effective contribution to the lasting legacy and governance of the Golden Key.”
